Norma Turner 3Norma is retired community nurse and a long-standing union representative within the NHS. Now a member of Greater Manchester Unite Community Branch, she has been involved in a number of voluntary organisations, where her roles have involved volunteer management, training and face-to-face support. These organisations include the George House Trust; Pankhurst Women’s Centre, and Women’s Voices (an organisation supporting women refugees and those seeking asylum).

Norma also acts as treasurer for the Greater Manchester “Keep our NHS Public” campaign and the Greater Manchester Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, and chairs the Manchester Palestine Solidarity Campaign. She trained nurses in Manipur (northeast India) in the 1990s, and in Gaza for two extended periods in 2010 and 2013. She is a proud season ticket holder at Manchester City FC. Norma is committed to fighting for equality and justice and has been involved in benefits and housing campaigns.

At Greater Manchester Law Centre (GMLC), Norma played an instrumental role in setting up and opening the organisation’s office in 2016 and in planning the 2017 official launch. This involved managing all front-of-house activities and associated volunteers, developing outreach volunteer activities, informing local organisations about GMLC’s work and sharing information with them for referrals.

On behalf of the trustees, Norma acts as line manager to the GMLC Development Managers and focuses on community and campaigning work. She is also chair of the Development & Campaign Committee.
