Greater Manchester Law Centre has received a grant from the We Love Manchester Charity to support its work in supporting Manchester tenants affected by the COVID19 crisis. The funds are provided through the We Love Manchester COVID Emergency Response Fund. The grant will fund a specialist housing lawyer to provide individual advice and allow GMLC to provide information and training to front line and community organisations supporting residents through these difficult times.
Over 40,000 people in Manchester have lost their jobs over the past couple of months; many of these are struggling financially and will face between paying their rent or meeting essential expenditure such as food. The grant will enable Greater Manchester Law Centre and front-line agencies to support tenants across the City facing potential eviction as a result of the Covid19 pandemic both now and over the coming months as the crisis unfolds.
“We are thrilled by the amazing grant awarded to us by the We Love Manchester Charity. This grant will mean that we can advise, support and represent tenants, particularly those at risk of eviction over the coming months, to ensure that no-one in Manchester loses their home as a result of this unprecedented crisis.”
Jason Tetley, GMLC Director
GMLC has already developed a series of resources to assist those affected by the crisis including its COVID-19 Survival Kit and is campaigning to change the law so that tenants are protected from eviction by the law post-25th June. Our proposals are here.
