Welfare Benefit Caseworker Volunteers

Our fantastic welfare benefits casework volunteers have achieved:

Do you want to make a difference in your community while learning and gaining skills? Do you want to improve your confidence and employability? 

We are looking for welfare benefit caseworker volunteers to help provide advice and assistance on a number of benefit issues from assistance with completing complex claim forms to challenging unfair decisions made by the DWP. 

What we are looking for:

  • A minimum of one day per week at our GMLC office
  • Experience in representing at tribunal is desirable
  • Knowledge of welfare benefits is essential

We are looking for:

Front of House Volunteers

Could you join our Front of House team?

Our team of Front of House volunteers meet and welcome members of the public who visit our premises. Our volunteers deal with the reality of the lack of support and advice currently available to people. 

They assist with clients issues whenever possible, carry out research, help people to gain access to further advice where necessary and often make clients feel better by just listening and acknowledging the difficulties that people are faced with. There is also plenty to do to help keep the building in good shape. 

Per year the team deals with over 3000 enquiries, face to face, by telephone and by email.

Do you want to increase your skills and knowledge, gain work experience and meet new people? Do you want to improve your confidence and employability?

What we are looking for:

  • A commitment of six hours on one day per week
  • An excellent telephone manner
  • Computer literacy
  • The ability to remain calm and courteous under pressure
  • A friendly, helpful and empathetic disposition
  • Self-motivation with the ability to work unsupervised
